Our stay in Dayton was meant to be brief. We needed to do some shopping, truck and RV maintenance, and a quick visit to the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
The first two tasks were completed in one day so we had the entire next day to visit the museum. We had heard it was one we should have on our bucket list several years ago so we put it there. When we drove up to the museum grounds we were taken aback at its massive size. We did not expect it to be as big as it was. We will need more time than one day.
The complex consisted of four huge building of 224,000 square feet each. That equates to nearly three football fields in length and one in width for EACH building! Oh! And of course, it is free. We, definitely, need a bigger time frame.
We started out touring the first building and were so intrigued with the displays we decided not to rush through it, but planned on returning in the future. It took close to 6 hours (with a 2 hour break to go back to the RV to feed and walk the furkids) to go through the first and half of the second building. I should have done my homework on this one.
Disappointed we could not explore the complete collection, we headed back to the RV for a quiet afternoon with the kids and to make preparations for the next mornings departure. Gotta make sure we come back here. Tomorrow we set out for Indianapolis, Indiana.
