El Dorado, KS to Auburn, NE (August 4, 2012)

Today we traveled about the same distance (212 miles) as yesterday (196 miles), but since we were not on an Interstate the entire way our drive time was quite a bit more. With stops it took 5 1/2 hours, but we departed early and that got us there mid-afternoon. What a difference a day and 200 miles north made. The farther north we went the farmer's crop failures seemed to be less. I can only image the corn/grain prices are going to be quite high this fall/winter.

Again, we did not unhook from the truck for we, again, wanted an early start. We made the decision to make Offutt Air Base near Omaha, NE our next stop. We had been on the move quite a bit since we left Colorado Springs and decided to stay here a few days to relax and replenish our stores. That and sight see some, too.

After dinner and with the temperature in the high 70s, we ventured out for a long walk. Exercise is something we had not been able to do for some time and it was welcomed by all. The RV park was next to a city park and we spent a lot of time just meandering around. It had as nice lake and, of course, Guinness was really wanting to jump in. Sorry, buddy. Maybe next time. I am not a fan of lakes with sharp drop offs from the shore.

Although camp fires were not allowed, we did sit outside until well after dark. What a pleasure. Hopefully, we will not see any more high temperatures again.
